Springtime of Faith
Can you feel your increase in faith? Can you tell that buds of faith are appearing on the winter bare landscape of your life? Though you have been learning contentment in this winter season, can you feel a new joy, a new expectation arising? For your roots are deeper and stronger now and the season of new growth and bright colors is coming forth. But in this season, look for new growth on old plants that seemed dormant. For this season will bring together a new landscape of the old and the new. So dig out the dead, prune the old, and plant the new. Surely the new spring is near at hand and will bring bold surprises of blossoming faith.
Song of Solomon 2:10-13
My lover spoke and said to me, "Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come with me. See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me."
Commentary
This prophetic word talks of a spiritual springtime which is at hand. Though the world seems to be showing a difficult season ahead, this word is saying that God is giving us a springtime of growth. I believe this word is for those who have had a difficult wintertime in the faith where there was not a lot of hope, comfort, or beauty around you. God has been saying a lot lately about a new season ahead. Mankind controls a lot of thing in his environment, but he cannot control the seasons. So it is important to know the seasons so that you will know when to plant and when to prune.
This word says that God is bringing forth a new landscape around us made up of the new things that He brings as well as new growth of the older things. To prepare for this, God gives key words of direction to: dig out the dead, prune the old, and plant the new. How to distinguish what to dig out or prune is an issue of seeking God in prayer. But surely there are some things that are dead works that need to end. There is also some good things that need to be pruned because they will not yield much new fruit.
The passage from Song of Solomon 2:10-13 was the reference for this word. This is a very personal verse for those who are in a very personal relationship with the Lord. Though this verse will not make much sense to those who watch the daily news, I believe it is what the Lord is saying to His Bride in this hour.
